Additional Services

Whilst we will always guarantee to improve the health and appearance of your lawn over the course of the
year there can often be other factors beyond those of nutrition, weeds and disease that are the root cause
of a poor lawn.

The additional ProLawnCare additional services are there to rectify underlying problems and to reinstate and
repair worn out lawn areas

Solid Tine & Hollow Core Aeration

This process will help to alleviate soil compaction, allow water and nutrients to flow into the root zone more easily and bring important soil microbes and micro-nutrients back to the surface of the soil. The process of aeration is by far the most effective method of eradicating moss and thatch build up from lawns. We will use either solid tines (to relieve compaction or hollow tine to reduce thatch problems.

Most lawns will benefit from core aeration once each year. After aeration, many lawns will benefit from an application of top dressing (sand:soil mixture) plus additional grass seed to thicken and improve the quality of the lawn.

Aeration

Scarification

The mechanical removal of thatch build up and dead moss. This is a labour intensive job whereby the years of build up and decline of your lawn can start to be undone. The lawn may look worse after the treatment but it is an essential part of the renovation process.

Scarification

Lawn Repair

Dead, damaged and badly worn areas of your lawn are reinstated, usually this involves re-seeding techniques.

Top Dressing

The application of a sand rich material to the soil surface. It is usually applied following aeration of the lawn to improve both the drainage and the structure of your lawns top soil.

Disease Control

Last year we noticed an increase in the disease known as Red Thread. This is first noticeable as irregular bleached patches on the lawn. If you look closely at the infected grass you will see red cotton like threads growing vertically from the blades of grass. Normally an application of a fertiliser will overcome this, but last year it was necessary to spray a fungicide to cure the problem.

Another diseases increasingly found in lawns is Fusarium Patch.

Disease Control

Worm Cast Control

Worm casts (small mounds of earth brought to the surface by worms). Of the 25 species of worms found in the UK only 3 are responsible for casting.

It is advisable to scatter the casts with a besom/broom otherwise these casts can smear and kill areas of grass allowing weeds to grow leading to deterioration in the lawn. Alternatively treatments can be applied to stop the casts occurring in the first place.

Ant Treatment

Ants are an increasing problem in Uk Lawns. Their colonies can build up leading to unevenness and hills in the lawn. In July adults leave the nest causing a risk to young children.
